North Dakota State Fair & Family Safety

Expert Tips from A Local Mom

By Jess Vasas, Macaroni Kid Minot Publisher July 24, 2022

Hooray!!
The State Fair is here, and everyone is ready to enjoy all the fantastic attractions, foods, and concerts!

A local mom, Stephanie B., who works with our ambulance service in Minot, has made a list of excellent tips to help families be prepared and safe during these fair days.

Here are her top 5 tips:

1) We have a FREE first aid booth. Someone is there from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day (unless there is an emergency on the grounds, then we will be back as soon as we can)!
We have bandaids, sunscreen, Tylenol, etc. We can also help you during a medical emergency until a physical ambulance can arrive.
We are located behind the kiddie rides towards Burdick (gate E) in a big white trailer with First Response all over it.

2) As parents, we all think" it won't happen" to us, but take a moment and write your name and cellphone number somewhere on your child (wrist, stomach, wherever), so if your child goes missing, we can contact you!

3) Water! Water! Water! I can't stress this enough!

4) If you are in need of help, stay put, find any NDSF employee they can call us, and we will come to you!

5) Most importantly, have an amazing time and make memories with your babies! They grow way too fast!

Several other moms in this local group shared other ways they also stayed hydrated and safe during the fair last year.

1. Bring a refillable water.

2. If you write your phone number on your child's body, use liquid bandage to help prevent it from wearing off. Waterproof eyeliner can also be effective.

3. Take a picture of each child with you, so you have the most up-to-date photo showing their features and clothing.

This is another excellent practice to implement if you and your child get separated.
I think most people start looking quietly so as to not cause panic and stay calm, but Jess Martini has a different approach that just makes sense!
